PAHANG TO TAKE ON ATM IN FINAL

Pahang will take on Armed Forces after both teams safely negotiated their way past their semi final opponents in the 5th Raja Noora Ashikin Cup 2011 at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil this morning.

Pahang defeated PDRM 4-0 while Armed Forces disposed off KL Sukma 4-1 on the adjacent pitch.

This will be Pahang's first appearance in the final of the RNA Cup since its inception in 2000. Their best finish has been a third spot in 2005.

They were surprisingly given a tough time by PDRM especially in the first half but eventually prevailed, scoring four in the next 35 minutes.
"We knew it was a matter of time before we could break down their defence and it was all the matter of being patient and getting the first goal," said Pahang coach C. Sreedharan.

"Now that we are in the final, we aim to win the title. But it will not be easy as ATM have been improving from match to match.

"Still I feel we have players that will turn the tide in our favour and winning our group match 1-0 has given my players a psychological boost."

Pahang opened scoring in the 46th minute through a penalty corner converted by Fazilla Syvester Silin. And they doubled their advantage in the 53rd minute, this time Nuraini Abd Rashid finding the mark.
With PDRM running out of steam and time Pahang managed to squeeze in two more goals, through skipper Nor Hasliza Md Ali (65th minute) and Nuraini (69th minute) for an emphatic win.

In the other semi final match, ATM were far the superior side, dominating much of the match. But credit must be given to the KL Sukma youngsters who just refused to be cowed in by the reputation and experience of their opponents.

Skipper Nadia Abdul Rahman started the ball rolling by scoring in the 25th minute. And a minute before the halftime hooter, ATM doubled their advantage as Siti Rodiah Tumin scored.
Izzuin Ismail sent an unstoppable drag flick high into the roof of the KL Sukma goal from a penalty corner in the 43rd minute to make it 3-0 before Nadia scored the fourth in the 55th minute.

KL Sukma scored a consolation in the 65th minute via Zhulaili Zakaria in the 65h minute.

KL AND ATM BOOK SEMIS SPOT

KL Sukma and Armed Forces qualified for the semi finals of the 5th Raja Noora Ashikin Cup 2011 in contrasting fashion at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil.
While ATM romped home with a 11-0 demolition of SMK Puteri, KL Sukma were held to a 2-2 draw by Singapore.

ATM made it to the semis as the best placed runner up in the three pools and will take on KL Sukma who required only a draw to confirm their spot.

KL took the lead in the 7th minute through Nor Azlin Sumantri, the younger sister of Project 2013 player Nor Izzat Sumantri.

However Singapore drew level in the 18th minute through Li Min Toh. However their joy ewas shortlived as KL went 2-1 ahead via skipper Fathih Hasni.

Singapore scored their second goal in the 50th minute through Sabrina Bahnu De Gofar but could not muster up a third that could have given them a spot in the last four.

Meanwhile ATM played at half pace, perhaps wary of the fact that they will be playing the semis in less then 24 hours. But it was still good enough to whip the Negeri Sembilan side who are actually preparing for the National Under 16 Tournament in Seremban in two weeks time.

Nadia Abdul Rahman put ATM ahead in the 2nd minute before Siti Rahmad doubled the advantage in the 7th minute.

And that opened the floodgates with goals from Nadia ( 9th and 42nd minute), Siti Rodiah Tumin ( 23rd and 67th minutes), Ma Jamaliah (32nd and 45th minutes), Thalasiah Yaacob ( 56th minute) and Juliani Mohammad Din (61st minute).

PDRM MAKE SEMIS IN STYLE

PDRM dashed the hopes of the youngsters from Perak when they defeated the silver state 4-1 to qualify for the semi finals of the 5th Raja Noora Ashikin Cup 2011 at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil this morning.

And Johor, the other team from Group A who had a mathematical chance of sneaking through had PDRM failed defeated Seri Titiwangsa 2-0 to complete their matches.

PDRM took the lead in the 11th minute through Angela kais only for Perak to draw level five minutes later thanks to Nor Amalina Yang.

But PDRM were duly rewarded in the 23rd minute as a reverse stick hit from Nor Faznilah Abdullah had Perak keeper Nurasyikin Mohd Shukri beaten all the way.

With the Perak players knowing only a win could see them through, they threw players forward and PDRM duly punished them with goals from Aida Fazrina in the 48th and 57th minutes to register a 4-1 win.

The Johor v Seri Titiwangsa game was a lacklusture affair as Johor knew that PDRM had already taken the top spot and the semis berth.

Goals from Hanis Nadiah Onn in the 34th and 65th minutes sealed the three points and the second spot in Group A.

Meanwhile Terengganu ended their campaign with a win when they defeated Penang 2-1 with goals from Nor Aini Mohd Tajuddin (15th minute) and Aishah Zulkifli (26th minute).
Penang had taken the lead in the 7th minute through Nur Izwana Ahmad but failed to sustain their challenge.

In another match Selangor whipped Setia Cougar 10-0.

Selangor scored through Areena Abdullah (2nd and 41st minutes), Raja Norsharina (16th, 49th, 50th and 59th minutes), Ellya Shahirah (18th minute), Fatin Shafika (29th and 51st minutes) and Nurul Safiqah (36th minute).

PERAK, JOHOR, PDRM TO FIGHT IT OUT TO DECIDE SEMIS SPOT

Armed Forces showed that they are made of sterner stuff when they registered their second consecutive win in the 5th Raja Noora Ashikin Cup 2011 match at the National Hockey stadium in Bukit Jalil this morning.

Having lost their opening match against Pahang, ATM defeated Terengganu 2-0 yesterday and followed that up with a 5-1 demolition of Penang. And they are hoping for Pahang to defeat Terenggau this evening to give them an outside chance of sneaking into the semis as the best runner up team in the final standings.

And in order to do that they will have to win their last match against lowly SMK Puteri for the current second placed teams will find it tough to finish on 9 points to grab the final spot made open to the runners-up.

ATM scored their goals through Suzaba Yaacob ( 2nd minute), Izzuin Ismail (16th minute) Siti Rahmah (24th and 29th minutes) and Juliani Mohammad Din (52rd minute) while Penang scored their consolation through the effort of Nur Izwana Ahmad Tajuddin in the 24th minute.

Meanwhile PDRM too registered their second win when they trashed Kedah 5-0 to throw the battle for the semis spot from Group A wide open.

They will battle it out against Perak and Johor to determine which team moves into the semis this Friday.

Perak defeated Seri Titiwangsa 4-1 and have a total of 5 points, the same as Johor.

While Perak and PDRM square off against each other in the final group match tomorrow, Johor will have an easy task against Seri Titiwangsa.

A PDRM win will give them a semis spot while a Perak win could lead to the semis spot being decided on goal difference with Johor who are expected to pile up the goals against the youngsters from Seri Titiwangsa.

PDRM scored through Aida Fazniza (5th minute), Norhidayah Rosli (20th minute), Norhafdizah Razali (29th minute), Daring Nyokin (30th minute) and Norfazlinah Abdullah (56th minute).

In contrast Perak will probably be left regretting the number of chances they missed in their match against Seri Titiwangsa.

Perak gor their goals via Nor Hidayah Ahmad Bokhari ( 38th, 45th and 57th minutes) and Azra Tasnim (51st minute) while Seri Titiwangsa's goal was scored by Nur Radhiah Razanah in the 52nd minute).

Meanwhile the youngsters from the KL Sukma side enhanced their chances of making it through to the semifinals when they defeated Selangor 3-2 in a Group C match.

The win gave them nine points from three matches and they only require a draw in their last preliminary round match against Singapore to book a place in the last four. In contrast Singapore require an outright win to pip KL Sukma.

KL took the lead in the 2nd minute through Zhulaili Zakari who dived full length at the far post to deflect the ball in.

But Selangor hit back in the 18th minute when Areena Abdullah converted a penalty corner.

However in the 32nd minute KL Sukma restored their lead through a penalty corner strike by Nor Azlin Sumantri. And in the 53rd minute Nor Azlin struck yet again to give the city side a comfortable 3-1 lead.

Though Selangor reduced the deficit in the 65th minute, again through a penalty corner converted by Areena, the result was never in doubt.
