Singapore laboured to a 1-0 win over Malacca as Pahang whitewashed SMK Puteri 13-0 at the 5th Raja Noora Ashikin Cup 2011 tournament at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil this evening.
Despite the solitary goal win, the Singaporeans dominated the Group C match and were let down by poor finishing.
However the win puts them on the top of the standings in Group C, having collected seven points from two wins and a draw.
Skipper O Ming Fen converted a penalty corner in the 50th minute to give them the valuable three points and a shot at a semis spot. They will have to overcome KL Sukma in their final group match to assure themselves a place in the semis scheduled for Friday.
While the Singaporeans were struggling to score, Pahang faced no such problems against SMK Puteri as they scored at will in their Group B clash.
Nuraini Abdul Rashid was the toast of the Pahang side as she accounted for six of the goals, scoring in the 7th, 9th, 29th, 34th, 37th and 68th minutes.
The other goals were scored by Siti Shahidah Saad (12th minute), Nor Hasliza Md Ali (34th minute), Fazilla Syvester Silin ( 41st and 60th minutes), Noraliana Mohd Ali (55th minute) and Siti Noor Amarina Ruhaini (67th minute).
Pahang will take on Terengganu in a crucial match tomorrow and a win will assure them their place in the last four.
